We all want to say hello and tell you one or two things about ourselves in this, our little getting started guide.

We've got a simple bit of software we want to give you. It'll let you make free calls to your friends all over the world. And we don't want any money for it. It's free.

Our calls have excellent sound quality and are highly secure with end-to-end encryption. You don't even need to reconfigure your firewall or router. It just, you know... works.

When you call a friend who also has Skype, you can talk to them for as long as you like... for free. That's part of our deal. Skype to Skype calls are free and always will be. The only thing we ask of you in return is that you share Skype with your friends. You see, the more friends you share it with, the more friends you can talk to. You can even use our free conference calling to talk, tease or argue with up to four friends at the same time. Then there's SkypeOut, which lets you call your friends who are not yet using Skype on their regular phone or mobile.

If you would like to set up your Skype account, you can follow these easy instructions.

Before you register, make sure you are connected to the Internet. The first time you start Skype, the program will automatically check if a new version is available. We are constantly updating and improving the software with new features, so you should download the latest version if there is a newer one available.
